GUARD CARD TRAINING


This course provides the 4-hours of Power to Arrest and and the 4 hours of Weapons of Mass Destruction training required by the CA State BSIS to apply for a Guard Card. The course is the first step of the three step process to getting a CA State Guard Card.

Three Steps to Obtaining a Guard Card:

  • Step 1: Attend a 8-hour course and receive certificate

  • Step 2: Submit CA State Online Security Guard Application

  • Step 3: Get Fingerprints taken by a Live Scan Operator

This course package meets the CA State Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) 32-Hour continuing education (CE) requirement for all first year security guards. These courses are required for all first year CA State security guards after they have already taken the initial 8-hour guard card course (Powers to Arrest and Weapons of Mass Destruction).

This package contains the 32-hours of security guard training that is mandated by the CA State BSIS for all first year security guards. See the CA State Security Guard Training Requirements on the CA State Web Site.

This package includes the 8-hour Guard Card Course, as well as the full additional 32-hours of BSIS Continuing Education Courses that are required for all first year security guards in California. The 40-hours of combined courses are all you need to both obtain your guard card (first 8-hours) and to complete the BSIS first year 32-Hour continuing education requirement.

  • Security guard registration

    Security guards are employed by licensed Private Patrol Operators or private security employers to protect persons or property or prevent theft as defined in Business and Professions Code (BPC) Section 7582.1. To be eligible to apply for a security guard registration through the Bureau of Security and Investigative Service (BSIS or Bureau), you must:

  • Verify A License

    Use this online search tool to verify a license issued by the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) for the professions listed under license type. Each license record will reflect if a license is current, expired, or has been subject to disciplinary action like suspension or revocation.

  • Firearms permit fact sheet

    The Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS or Bureau) issues Firearms Permits (also referred to as a "Firearms Qualification Card (FQ)" or "Exposed Firearms Permit") as specified in Article 4 (commencing with Section 7540) of Chapter 11.3, Article 4 (commencing with Section 7583) of Chapter 11.5 and Article 6 (commencing with Section 7596) of Chapter 11.6 of Division 3 of the Business and Professions Code (BPC).
